My Portion

Life has a way of slowly unraveling at times; doesn’t it? Disappointment after disappointment, weariness layered over unmet expectations. There’s valleys we didn’t plan for, storms we never saw coming, and seasons we didn’t choose.

Our strength fails. Sleep doesn’t come. Smiles don’t mask the struggle. Emotions rise like floodwaters. Panic, grief, fear, anger, confusion— as the tide rises, we search for an anchor.

It’s in these moments—when the mask slips, when the cracks show, when we can no longer pretend we have it all together—that we are brought face to face with a humbling, freeing truth…  we are never meant to hold it all together in the first place.

Asaph confesses in Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

God is the strength of my heart. Not just a temporary helper, not a distant observer—He becomes the very source of strength.

And, my portion forever.  This is a declaration of both dependence and delight. It means that in a world filled with things that fail and fade, God Himself is enough—not just to get us by, but to fully satisfy our souls.

Christ is our inheritance, our treasure, our reward. When everything else feels like it’s slipping through our fingers, He remains.

When we anchor our hearts to Him, we discover that even in the unraveling, there is a deeper wholeness. Even in the lack, there is abundance. Even in the valley, there is presence.

So when our strength fails and emotions flood… when the plans fall through and the pressure builds… when our hearts feel weak and our hands feel empty… we return to the truth we know.

Jesus is our strength. He is our portion. He is enough.

He holds us when we can’t hold ourselves.

He satisfies when nothing else will.

And He sustains— forever.
