There are so many incredible women in the Bible who played significant roles in God’s plan through their faith, strength, and servanthood. Many of us could quickly name some of those: Eve, Sarah, Rebekah, Deborah, Esther, Ruth, and Mary.
There’s one lady, named Huldah, that I have been encouraged by from 2 Kings 22:14-20. Let me give you a little insight into her story. Josiah was the reigning king, and the temple was being repaired. The high priest Hilkiah discovered the lost Book of the Law. When Josiah heard the words of the law, he was deeply distressed, realizing how far the nation had strayed from God’s commands. Seeking guidance, he sent his officials to inquire of Huldah. Huldah boldly declared God’s message, confirming that Judah’s persistent disobedience would bring inevitable judgment. However, she also delivered a personal word to Josiah, assuring him that because of his humility and repentance, he would not witness the coming destruction. In turn, Josiah led a sweeping spiritual renewal throughout the land.
What a powerful moment for Huldah and example for us as Christ followers today! I am thankful for the powerful ways God has used—and continues to use—women to advance His kingdom. Huldah served in wisdom (v15), boldness (16-17), faithfulness (v18-20), and compassion (v19). Her voice sparked transformation in an entire nation.
Like Huldah, may we be a people that continues to stand firmly on the Word, speaks truth with courage, and fosters a legacy of faithfulness and compassion for generations to come.
